Philip Rainey QC – Tanfield Chambers
Philip is the Head of Tanfield Chambers and specialises in property and commercial litigation.
Having been Real Estate Junior of the Year, Chambers Bar Awards 2009 and Barrister of the Year,
Enfranchisement Awards 2009 Philip took Silk in 2010. In addition to mainstream landlord and tenant
work, Philip has a particular expertise in leasehold enfranchisement, Right to Manage and service
charges. Philip appeared in the Lords in Aggio and Sportelli and in the Supreme Court in Daejan v
Benson, Menelaou v Bank of Cyprus and earlier this year Kumarasamy v Edwards. With his
colleagues at Tanfield he is a co-author of “Service Charges and Management” (3 rd edition 2013).
Philip has a keen, apolitical interest in the reform of landlord & tenant law; he has presented papers to the APPG on leasehold reform and assisted the Law Commission on the “event fees” project.
